My name is Dylan Beck, or as most people know me - Rudeism.

I graduated from the University of Otago with a degree in computer science, then studied game development for a year before being offered a job creating mobile games. Although game development is my day job, my passion is in designing and building custom controllers.

I started my controller building journey in 2015 when one of my friends challenged me to play Rocket League with a Guitar Hero guitar. At first I was experimenting with using controllers in ways they weren’t intended to be used, such as playing World of Warcraft using dance pads and playing Overwatch with flight sticks.

But it didn’t take long before I began building my own controllers. These early models used a device called a Makey Makey that can turn household objects into touch surfaces and computer inputs. Some of these controllers include playing Winston in Overwatch with bananas, playing Hanzo in Overwatch with a Nerf Bow, and playing PUBG with a blender.

My skills have improved in leaps and bounds since then. Incorporating joysticks, buttons, motion sensors, and a lot of sweat and tears, I have pushed the boundaries of controller science. I have beaten Super Mario 64 with one button. I have beaten Hades with a pomegranate. And I have beaten Elden Ring with a Fisher Price toy controller.

Today I design and build my own custom controllers from the ground up. If you have an idea for a controller, I can build it.
